What We Do
College costs are rising. Government funds are shrinking. And many promising students cannot afford to realize their dreams of a post-secondary education. At a time when education should be a top priority for our country, access to education needs to be equally important.

Bethel Educational Scholarship Team has accomplished a lot in the past 21 years. We now have an endowment of more than $900,000 to fund scholarships for Bethel District graduates.

We are the local chapter for Dollars for Scholars and more than 500 schools and colleges will match our scholarships with equal dollar amounts.

We receive generous regular donations from:

• Bethel School District employees through the "Day's Pay" program

• Graham Patchers' beautiful quilts donated for the BEST raffle.

• Graham Business Association

• Many individuals, families, and businesses of the Bethel School District.

The 2008 Graham Patchers Quilt raffle was won by Lisa Ottoson. This gorgeous quilt was raffled off on June 10, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at the BEST Board of Directors Meeting, Bethel School District Office.

B.E.S.T. News

In 2008, BEST awarded 149 scholarships totaling $83,500 to graduates of the district's four high schools, Bethel, Spanaway Lake, Challenger, and the newest school, Graham-Kapowsin. Check the Awards page for details.

In addition, the new Dollars for Scholars Chapter at Graham-Kapowsin High School  awarded 20 scholarships, totaling $12,000.

There is a potential of 16 Promise Scholars graduating this spring. Promise Scholars are nominated in their sixth grade year by their teachers. B.E.S.T. sets aside funds and promises a $500 scholarship when these students graduate from the Bethel District. This will be the third year of Promise graduates.
