Tips
for Finding Scholarships
Scholarship
application season is here - try these tips for finding
scholarship dollars:
-
Apply early and
apply often - with one caveat. Take time to do the research
necessary to ensure you are eligible and that you meet their
criteria.
-
Start with the
high school guidance counselor. Their office should have all
kinds of resources.
-
Visit the
financial aid office at the college you will attend. Look for
grants from the college or other scholarships available.
-
Surf the Net.
There are lots of resources out there.
-
Visit your local
library for reference books about schools, foundations, and
companies that offer scholarship programs.
-
Think about your
own talents, interests and career goals. Various organizations
give scholarships to students with particular interests or who
are pursuing specific areas of study.
-
Look to your own
community. The Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary, American Association of
University Women and religious groups sponsor scholarships.
-
Consider where
your parents work. Employers may offer scholarships to the
children of their employees.
